History of Mac mini

Mac mini is a line of desktop personal computers that were introduced in 2005 and continues to this day. The Mac mini series until now has been released in five main generations and contained 19 models.

Mac mini from the very beginning was shipped without any display, keyboard, or mouse, to encourage users to switch from PC to Mac. Mac mini series was, is, and will be the cheapest Mac in the portfolio.

Mac mini has been designed to be a small form factor computer that delivers decent performance for a fair price. The machines were intended as entry-level computers and dedicated to budget-minded customers and students.

The first Mac mini has been introduced on January 23, 2005, and discontinued one year later on February 28, 2006. Today this device is 19 years old.

The original Mac mini features a 1.25 or 1.42 GHz PowerPC 7447a G4 processor, 256 MB or 512 MB of RAM, 40 GB or 80 GB hard drive, 12x DVD-ROM/CD-RW “Combo” drive, and 32 MB ATI Radeon 9200 graphics.

Mac mini Late 2005

The Mac mini Late 2005 has been introduced on September 27, 2005, and discontinued five months later on February 28, 2006. Today this device is 18 years old.

This Mac mini features a 1.33 or 1.5 GHz PowerPC 7447a G4 processor, 512 MB of RAM, 40 GB or 80 GB hard drive, 12x DVD-ROM/CD-RW “Combo” drive, built-in AirPort Extreme Card, Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR, and 32 MB ATI Radeon 9200 graphics in the base model.

A model with 1.25 GHz was sped up to 1.33 GHz and the version with a 1.42 GHz processor has been sped up to 1.5 GHz. Computers also got more RAM. Along with the product update, Apple still kept the basic version with a 1.25 GHz processor on the market.
