The Apple iPad 5th Generation (iPad 2017) is a tablet that was designed, manufactured, and sold by Apple from 2017 to 2018 as part of the iPad series. The tablet has been introduced on March 21, 2017, and its price started at $329.
The fifth generation of iPad features a Dual-Core 1.85 GHz 64-bit Apple A9 processor with Six-Core graphics, Apple M9 motion coprocessor, 9.7″ high-resolution Retina multi-touch widescreen LCD IPS Display, fingerprint identity Touch ID sensor built into the Home button, Wi-Fi, 2 GB of RAM, 32 GB or 128 GB of flash memory, Bluetooth 4.2, Dual camera system; front 1.2 Mpix FaceTime HD camera, and rear 8.0 Mpix camera with 1080p video recording capability, accelerometer, Ambient light sensor, digital compass, Lightning port, 3.5-mm headphone jack, and an optional version with GPS, 4G / LTE data capability.
The iPad has a 9.7-inch (25cm) screen. Compared to the iPad Air 2, the processor is updated from the Apple A8X to the A9 with the embedded Apple M9 motion co-processor. The iPad has 2 GB of RAM. It is 7.5mm thick, which is the same thickness as the iPad Air, compared to the 6.1mm of the iPad Air 2.
Unlike other iPad models available, this iPad’s display is not fully laminated and does not have an anti-reflective coating. However, this iPad has a brighter screen than the iPad Air 2 (25% brighter according to Apple). It is available in 32 and 128 GB storage options. Contrasting with the iPad Pro lineup, this iPad features only two speakers (as opposed to four), has no Smart Connector support, and has no camera flash LED light. It is offered in silver, gold, and space grey colors.
Despite its use of the Apple A9 processor and accompanying M9 motion co-processor, introduced with the iPhone 6s in 2015, the iPad does not feature support for always-on “Hey Siri” voice input, a feature advertised as being made possible by low-power processing in the then-new chips. The use of “Hey Siri” is limited to when the iPad is connected to power.
This iPad has been discontinued on March 27, 2017, and has been replaced by the iPad 6th Generation.
Today iPad 5th Generation is 5 years old!
