The Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard is an operating system designed, developed, and sold by Apple from 2009 to 2011 alongside Apple’s personal computers. The system was released on August 28, 2009, and was available for $29 and in the family pack for $49 or was preinstalled on currently sold computers.

Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard brings improvements in performance, greater efficiency, and the reduction of its overall memory footprint. Much of the software in Mac OS X was extensively rewritten for this release to take advantage fully of modern Macintosh hardware.

New programming frameworks, such as OpenCL, were created, allowing software developers to use graphics cards in their applications. This is also the first Mac OS release since System 7.1.1 that does not support Macs with PowerPC processors, as Apple now intends to focus on its current line of Intel-based products.

Snow Leopard introduced Mac App Store which allowed you to install applications from a secure source, Safari 4 features Top Sites, Cover Flow, Voice Over, expanded standards support, and built-in crash resistance, which prevents browser crashes caused by plug-ins by running them in separate processes, Quick Time X, Time Machine, Boot Camp, totally new Finder, iChat, Microsoft Exchange, Preview, Voice Over, and many more.

This software got the last update (10.6.8) on July 25, 2011, and later has been replaced by a newer version of Mac OS X 10.7 Lion. Today Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard is 14 years old!
