The Apple iPhone 4 (4th Generation) is a smartphone designed, manufactured, and sold by Apple from 2010 to 2013 as part of the iPhone series. The next generation of the iPhone was introduced on June 7, 2010, and its price started at $199.
This all-new iPhone features an 800 MHz Apple A4 processor, 512 MB of RAM, 3.5″ Retina LED-backlit IPS multi-touch LCD Display, GPS, 3G data capability, two colors; Black and White, 8 GB / 16 GB or 32 GB of flash memory, built-in Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, 5.0 Mpix rear camera / 0.3 Mpix front camera, three-axis gyro, accelerometer, Digital compass, Dock connector, 3.5-mm headphone jack, and 7 hours of talk time on 3G and 14 hours on 2G.
The iPhone 4 introduced a new hardware design to the iPhone family, which Steve Jobs touted as the thinnest smartphone in the world at the time; it consisted of a stainless steel frame that doubled as an antenna, with internal components between two panels of aluminosilicate glass.
The iPhone 4 also introduced Apple’s new high-resolution “Retina Display” (with a pixel density of 326 pixels per inch), while maintaining the same physical size and aspect ratio as its precursors. The iPhone also introduced Apple’s A4 chip, along with iOS 4 – which notably introduced multitasking functionality and Apple’s new FaceTime video chat service.
The 4th generation of the iPhone was also the first to include a front-facing camera and the first to be released in a version for CDMA networks, ending AT&T’s period as the exclusive carrier of iPhone products in the United States.
This iPhone was discontinued on September 10, 2013, and replaced by the iPhone 4s. Today iPhone 4 is 13 years old!
